Among the many new pieces shown by Rigards at SILMO, the RG1999TVA stands out for its effortlessly wearable shape and lightweight titanium build

First presented at Paris Fashion Week in June, the new model produced in the collaboration between The Viridi-anne and Rigards draws on a vast array of inspirations. Rigards describes it as recalling an approaching wasp with its antennae up, while at the same time evoking a bird of prey in flight.

The frame has a striking clip system which is secured by a pair of S-curve features: this minute detailing comprises two opposite halves, one closed and one cut-out — flanking the nose bridge, a stylised take on the Yin-Yang symbol. Concealed behind the intricate details are magnets which attach to the main frame with ease and a minimal subtlety.

For decorative effect, the frame and the clip also feature an organic ripple motif, where the delicate lines reference patterns in nature such as dune waves and the ornate foliage of the pinstripe plant. This frame has been released in six elegant colours (some accented with uniquely-placed spot patinas), and it is offered with a semi-hard case made from a single piece of vegetable-tanned Santa Croce leather. Censur, created under the Prodesign brand, won a Silmo D’Or in the “Sunglasses – Eyewear Designer” category this weekend in Paris. The product release is part of a wider project named DANCE, which brings together the Danish and French design teams at Prodesign and Face a Face

Conceived as part of an innovative in-house design initiative called DANCE (combining parts of the words “Danmark x France“), with the idea of opening up a creative opportunity without boundaries, Censur by Prodesign represents a special departure for Design Eyewear Group and all those involved.

The concept originated from an internal design session involving all the designers and giving them free rein to work together and push the limits of traditional eyewear design without any rules. The two resulting frames have a distinctive structural bar across the lenses which the designers explain looks like a rectangular censor bar (the black bar used to cover up sensitive information). The desire was for this structural bold form to “challenge perceptions and invite wearers to experience the world from a different perspective”. In the frame, the beam design added a layer of mystery and sophistication. Above: Censur 2 by Prodesign won the Silmo d’Or 2024 in the “Sunglasses – Eyewear Designer category”

Censur 2 by Prodesign – the unisex frame is characterised by a square eye shape and a bold bar across the front

“Censur is about breaking the mould of traditional eyewear. We created something bold and futuristic, but also refined. The beam across the lenses was designed to evoke curiosity — it’s not just a design feature, it’s an invitation to see things differently. We’re thrilled to have won the SILMO d’Or for this design; it’s a celebration of the vision and collaboration behind Censur and our creative design lab DANCE.” — Lau Ruge, Design Eyewear Group

Censur 1 by Prodesign in bright purple

Censur 1 has the same distinctive bar as its sister frame, in a round shape that has an avant-garde and very individualistic look – and is well suited to the female face given the smaller shape. The colours are striking and include the bright purple above – a variation of one of the most important trending colours we saw at Silmo 2024 this weekend – as well as black or shiny silver. The 70s inspired Mystique style is one of three new acetate designs among the new releases for SILMO Paris

A frame which explores a 1970s aesthetic with trending ombré colourways, the new Mystique optical glasses from Ørgreen Optics, designed as a bold statement in the Danish company’s acetate collection, brings a new approach to graduated colour in eyewear. Called the “halo colour palette” by Ørgreen, in a comparison with halo hair colourations, the tones for the Mystique model range from nostalgic hues to vibrant psychedelic tones – in a horizontal gradient shading that has the effect of lighting up and softly enhancing the complexion. The frame is being released in six distinctive colours, of which there are four very fetching feminine ombré variations in clear lemon and caramel, brown crystal and geranium pink, clear dark shadow and citrine yellow and transparent rose violet and crystal crimson. Above: the Mystique model, a new eye-catching graduated acetate frame from the Danish eyewear company

The colours of the Mystique model – a very refined interpretation of the trending ombre effect in eyewear – brown crystal + geranium pink

The new frame is released alongside model Muse and model Candy Cane XS in the Acetate collection at Ørgreen, models which blend timeless elegance and a cutting-edge aesthetic thanks to the precise design work and craftsmanship adopted by Ørgreen and their innovative approach to colour and colour combinations via the expertise of Senior Colour Designer, Sahra Lysell. The new style Rogers in the Dimension collection – launched this month – is designed to combine the best qualities of 3D printed customised eyewear

Lightweight functional design with multiple practical qualities: Götti Switzerland’s Dimension collection continues to grow at pace, as the sophisticated finish and quality of its 3D printed collection – and the amazing possibilities of customising the fit – attract lots of fans who want their frames to feel good and wear well. The designs like model Rogers combine classic and modern style, characterised by a minimalist aesthetic and clean lines. The glasses can also be tailor-made, meaning that each individual is able to have the frame created just for them, according to their particular needs.

Above: close-up of model Rogers by Götti Switzerland – the frame has been inspired by vintage eyewear – the detailing and “bevelled” look is currently popular and gives the design a particular refinement

Rogers by Götti Switzerland – in a grey “ash” tone

Götti Switzerland’s Dimension collection was first launched in 2016. Wholly 3D printed, the collection is produced in Switzerland at the company HQ, and has been consistently refined and developed to offer a fine-quality state-of-the-art line that delivers top-notch comfort and durability as well as a cool pared-back subtly luxurious design style.

3D printed eyewear is increasingly popular, not only for its aesthetic qualities and comfort; it is also a sustainable form of eyewear production, thanks to the reduced waste in additive manufacturing and the opportunity to produce custom-made frames, avoiding over production and the problem of wasteful dead stock. For more information visit: www.gotti.ch

The new style is the latest addition in the limited-production Special Reserve collection

A masculine design, with luxurious details, the new Murray style from Erker’s 1879 features a mix of surgical steel and cellulose acetate and has been handcrafted in small batches, only 100 of each colour. A new development for the Special Reserve collection, the Murray is the first eyeglass to stray from the usual acetate build with a combination design. An acetate brow section has been paired with slim metal rims, which are decorated with a diamond-like pattern along the outer edge. Much like the rest of the collection, the frame boasts an ornate temple design and is named after one of the long-time sales reps of the heritage brand. Above: a handsome combination style: the Murray glasses by Erker’s 1879

Murray by Erker’s, pictured in terrazzo (above) and tortoise (below)

The Murray eyeglasses were designed with a classic rectangular silhouette, created in four colours, navy with silver, tortoise, terrazzo, and matte black. Never before seen at Erker’s 1879, the Terrazzo colour blend pairs warm orange and cool blue tones for a unique, contemporary style, complemented by the lustrous golden rims. The three additional colours are more simple and classic, allowing the metal elements to shine.

Continuing their tradition of storytelling, the Special Reserve collection encapsulates the 145-year history of their heritage brand with special insignia throughout the design of each frame. Inspiring the Ferris wheel rivets on the face and temples of the frame, the Erker family served as the official photographer of the 1904 World’s Fair, capturing the legendary Ferris wheel in downtown St. Louis. In 1927, the brand’s founding brothers designed the goggles worn by Charles Lindbergh for the first-ever nonstop transatlantic flight, which is represented by the goggles etched on the temple tips. The story doesn’t end there, with various custom elements relating to the five generations to run the business since their inception and their history in the city of St. Louis.

Erker’s 1879 have confirmed that they will soon release three additional eyeglass models in the Special Reserve collection.

Vintage character, fresh feminine accents, contemporary colour, and reliable made-in-Japan quality: the new capsule styles from Red Rose by Ogi Eyewear are a little taste of new season chic

Continuing its tradition of crafting modern, minimalist metal looks with hints of OGI colours, Red Rose introduces nine brand new models characterised by a juxtaposition of modern angles and classic P3 and cat’s eye shapes, crisp double rim details, and hand-painted pops of colour.

“This season reflects the current trend of updating vintage styles with refreshing design elements,” says OGI Eyewear Chief Creative Officer. “Red Rose by OGI incorporates vibrant colours and standout shapes in a refined manner, using sleek metal materials and elegant simplicity,” he adds, about a collection in which he has translated the boldness of the OGI colour palette into a cleaner, more pared-back range of hues. Above: model Garda in the Red Rose Collection by OGI Eyewear

Taranto in the Red Rose collection by OGI
The new Red Rose models include Taranto, where a geometric square shape has been added to the articulation of dual parallel lines. The balance of form and line is on-point, and speaks to the trend of modernisation, adding a touch of designer tech –  in a subtle way – to this look. Produced in stainless steel and acetate, the frame features the signature adjustable nose pads, 3 barrel hinge and OBE injection safety screws typical of the Red Rose collection.
The colour palette is sophisticated and full of contemporary trend-oriented tones which include iced coffee, dewberry, very peri and Turkish sea blue. OGI Eyewear is proud to offer a state-of-the-art virtual try-on app offering “hyper-realistic quality and a simple user experience.” – to have a go, visit the link at : https://ogi.theopticalfoundry.com/

Stylish, cutting-edge and enhanced by innovative details, this collection’s sunglasses designs are iconic in every way

Continuing a partnership that we have followed closely for some years, the new collection by J.F. REY and Hideo Kojima features, among seven new models which include ophthalmic frames, a sunglasses concept using acetate and aluminium in a single design. The range reinterprets the sun clip-on popular in the collaboration line and consists of two optical models in acetate, distinguished by a flip-up aluminium sun clip, created in black or grey depending on the model.

The sun clip is designed to perfectly fit the optical frames according to J.F. Rey,”reshaping” the look to make it original, modern, and easy to wear. Removable and convenient in all its details, the clip has been fitted with polarized lenses for protection against glare in the brightest of conditions. Above: HKxJF08 Hideo Kojima x J.F. The original style of the sunglass edition blends retro elements with contemporary design, using the signature references from the characteristic graphic universe of Hideo Kojima: jungle patterns, camouflage effects, crystal blue, and brushed black. The temples of the models are signed with the design Kojima Productions, adding a further distinctive touch to each frame. The collection also includes optical frames in the Iconics series and “Carbon Inside” styles which are produced in acetate with carbon fibre. The model is part of the latest series (C2) of new sunglass designs for men and women at SALT. Optics, which Eyestylist previewed in Spring with Trevor Dylan Kelley, Vice President of Product, of SALT. “Our frames are produced in a very high-quality Japanese acetate that holds its lustre, holds its adjustment, it will last for something like 200 years…” he explained. “We have also made sure that our inspiration and our acetate are truly unique to us. Our custom colours such as Desert Fog and Rose Fog are completely  in keeping with what SALT. does….they have been really popular; I think because they offer a really nice pop of colour but they are also very much inspired by our photographic images of the natural environment and the incredible story they tell….”

This year, mountain ranges have been a focus for the direction of the design and colour story of the products in the different collections. “Our Whitney is named after Mount Whitney, the highest peak in North America. SALT. has always used interesting names and we have wanted to make sure that the optical retailer and the end consumer – when they want to understand the whole story of SALT., can find out about all the details and connect with what we do.” Explore the SALT. Two new models – just released this month – express the unusual aesthetic of a handmade collection inspired by erasing pencil lines – the brand releases unique spectacles every season based on the concept of unfinished art

erase by Masahiro Maruyama, the Japanese creative designer known for special artisan design work and impeccable craftsmanship, sees the addition of two new models this month – MM-0089 and MM-0090. The precisely calculated designs explore a playful idea where all traditional notions of how a frame should look are broken –  the right and left sides of the frames do not match – and nor do the front eye shapes. The uneven, asymmetrical lines and shapes are positively celebrated and explored with passion to finely craft each tiny aspect of the frames! This turns the designs into beautiful artistic pieces that offer the wearer a completely unique item for their face, like no other. Above: MM-0089 by the Japanese designer Masahiro Maruyama – avantgarde shape with details created with expertise and precision

MM-0090 by Masahiro Maruyama comes in bright tones of red or green – the eye shape is loosely based on a classic oval design

Both models are released in four colours which include bright tones of green, blue, red as well as a refined black or black and gold. The erase collection by Masahiro Maruyama was first introduced on Eyestylist.com in March 2018 : https://www.eyestylist.com/2018/03/erase-by-masahiro-maruyama/

The new designs, which include the hexagonal shaped model JF3060, offer custom-made acetate laminations in a blend of colours and patterns on a lightweight metal structure in complementary hues. Each style celebrates the possibilities of unexpected combinations and an aesthetic uniqueness – wholly characteristic of the J.F. Rey brand!

For all three styles, the frame fronts are adorned with a bespoke acetate construction: a play of laminations blending colour, pattern, and texture -assembled carefully to highlight the idiosyncratic beauty of each shape. Above and below: JF3060 by J.F. Rey

JF3061 by J.F. Rey – a striking round model offered in bright, alluring colours and contrasts of saturated and crystal colours – pictured above: the JF3059

The velvety satin finish of the metal frame structure enhances the three new designs, adding a contemporary elegance described as “an expressive, distinctive and memorable visual signature” that reflects the essence of J.F. Rey’s dedicated work in colour. Find out more at www.jfrey.fr

In the Gentlemen collection by RES/REI launched for the current season, model Duke exemplifies the brand’s elegant contemporary take on designing artisan eyewear styles for men – always striving for an inimitable style of sophistication and handcrafted finesse

With its sophisticated shapes, accomplished workmanship and rich details, the frames in the line all feature 5-joint hinges and a decorative metal inner core within temples. Above: model Duke comes in six different colourways including the rich Brown Tortoise variation in acetate from Mazzucchelli 1849’s archives – the additional colourways (not pictured above and below) are – Brown Havana with slate blue and ultramarine blue; black/green; and olive green.

Decorations in this collection are inspired by the tradition of the Speakeasies that arose in the United States during Prohibition. The lettering on the inside of the frames follow this theme.

Two new refined models elevate the design of the heritage collection at Erker’s with a new polishing process, adding a range of custom elements throughout the frames, and upgrading from a standard brushed metal to a shiny silver – the ferris wheel rivets reference an important moment in the brand’s history

Combining the Erker’s family expertise, which dates back through generations, the Bouvier and Deardorf optical styles have been developed as being completely representative of the heritage of the brand and featuring detailed insignia, telling stories of the Erker family in each little detail. Found on the temple tips, a goggles icon notes their making of Charles Lindbergh’s goggles in the first ever nonstop transatlantic flight, while their year of inception and the generations of Erkers to run the business are found on the opposite side. On the interior of the temples, a custom-designed wire core is meant to resemble a microphone, a nod to the one-of-a-kind legends from the family’s hometown and some of the big-name celebrities that have sported an Erker’s frame. Ferris wheel rivets join the temple with the custom German hinge, matched by the decorative rivets on the front of the  Deardorf model featured in the collection. Above: model Deardorf by Erker’s – in the Special Reserve Limited Edition

Deardorf by Erker’s – available in blue grey, green sand, grey brown, and black red (pictured above)

Named after a veteran sales rep for a handful of their Northeast territories, the model Deardorf has a classic square shape, thick brows with a gentle curve at the bridge to offset the thinner lower rims, paired with a wide temple for a bold, sturdy style. A classic saddle bridge complements the thicker build, ensuring a comfortable fit. Matching the authentic rivets along the temples, four Ferris wheel rivets decorate the front of the frame, drawing the eyes upwards for an “uplifted” look.

The Ferris wheel is a detail that references the history of Saint Louis, where in 1904 at the World’s Fair, the very first ferris wheel rides were given. Erker’s Eyewear was the official photographer of the event.

Bouvier by Erker’s – an elegant cat eye design

Model Bouvier, named after a long-time sales rep of the North Carolina territory, features a bold and expressive silhouette. The sharp cat eye edge gives a dramatic feel, further accentuated by a narrow rectangular shape, thick rims, and a sleek straight brow. Custom designed and exclusive to Special Reserve, model Bouvier is available in four acetate blends including Burgundy Night and Antique Tort. For both frames, with the aim of retaining real exclusivity, just 100 styles of each colour have been made. Now available worldwide, the new Edition has been created in a collaboration with Aaron Chang – creator of IVY BOYS

A new Black Edition from the Japanese independent eyewear brand, TVR® has been created in a collaboration with Aaron Chang, the South Korean born creator of IVY BOYS – and launched initially via teaser campaign in Seoul. The frame, which features Sterling Silver spear rivets and  introduces gunmetal on all metal parts of the eyewear is named “KURO” after the Japanese word for “black” and its spectrum of meanings across fashion and art as well as in Japanese culture.

Crafted from custom-made Japanese Zylonite in Grey Crystal, the TVR®504 8mm KURO features a 1mm black layer on the temple, adding depth and sophistication. The material used for the front is described as taking centre stage, crafted and layered with black hues, achieving a profound solid black tone with a unique finish and surprising light effect. Above + below: a handcrafted work of distinction – TVR®504 8mm KURO (Black Edition), merging craftsmanship and style with Sterling Silver rivets and gunmetal accents

TVR®504 8mm KURO: exclusive packaging and limited edition merchandise / gifts

Of particular interest to those who recognise craft and unique Japanese design work, the TVR® Sterling Silver Spear 3D Rivets (Enlarged Version), have been produced without coating in order that they will develop a dark patina over time. Breaking new ground, TVR®OPT has also introduced a gunmetal coating on the hinges and the metal core, a step which adds a luxurious touch, and further accentuated by gold-plated washers that make the hinges shine.

Designed and created in Sabae, Fukui, Japan, this new frame concept took 12-months to develop through production, to ensure the final qualities of stability and a luxurious finish. The team at TVR®OPT say that they dedicated their time in the subsequent year to the meticulous crafting of each piece, with every detail custom-crafted by their highly renowned artisans.

Available in sizes 46mm to 50mm, the larger 50mm design is recommended as the ideal choice for sunglasses. Find out more at www.instagram.com/TVROPT

About AARON CHANG: Chang is the visionary creator behind the IVY BOYS brand, and stands at the intersection of art, dreams, and fashion. Born in South Korea, his artistic journey began under the influence of his father, an art teacher, fostering a deep love for creativity from a young age. His childhood immersion in art laid the groundwork for a lifelong passion that eventually manifested in the fusion of Ivy League fashion and a whimsical sense of humour. Aaron’s journey into the world of fashion illustration was shaped by pivotal moments, notably the impact of street fashion photography during his university days and the inspiration drawn from luminaries like Scott Schuman, creator of The Sartorialist blog. The introduction to ‘Take Ivy,’ a book capturing the essence of Ivy League fashion, marked a turning point, leading to the birth of IVY BOYS.

Retrosuperfuture continues its creative partnership with Marni, the iconic Milanese fashion brand, with the release of a new statement eyewear collection for the Spring/Summer 2024 season. The three new silhouettes are distinctive, sculptural and include beautiful shell-inspired patterns as well as solid colours

The new designs bring together RSF’s knowledge of materials and production technologies, with Marni’s aesthetic research. The selection was created with a particular emphasis on their tactile, material quality and high-end craftsmanship with the three silhouettes, Magneticus, Caelicola and Dark Doodad, having been designed by drawing inspiration from theatrical masks, with their exuberant, archetypal characters matching Marni’s distinctive and beautifully quirky aesthetics.  Above + below: model Caeolicola in “starshell” – the shape is described as an ironic take on classic cat-eyes – it features a unique pointed shape with curved rims and triangular lenses – the Marni branding is handset with an enamel finish within the temples

Exciting patterned frame design: Marni’s “mischievous” Magneticus sunglasses in “Lava” – the frame also comes in black, “Lazuli” and pink

To emphasize the construction and material quality of each silhouette, RSF and Marni have ventured into in-depth archival research to create custom-made acetate finishes. Working with Mazzucchelli, the designers have crafted exclusive natural finishes. For Magneticus, a lava-like finish in deep red, brown and dusty pink tones; for Caelicola a pearlescent, layered finish in gray, black and white with brown touches. All the finishes were designed to highlight the thick, opulent construction of each piece, elevating their materiality and craftsmanship. In addition to these exclusive colours, all three models also come in a classic black finish with red enameled branding as well as in a bright solid tinted acetates – green, yellow blue and red – with contrasting coloured lenses in bright blue, acid yellow or orange.  Find out more at www.retrosuperfuture.com
