The Italian company says its new collection is its most groundbreaking to date

Italian label RES/REI is launching a collection at SILMO 2024, which they describe as their most daring yet. Modernity meets timeless elegance in frames which celebrate a bold and creative aesthetic. Daring colour contrasts and Art-Deco-inspired forms are particularly eye-catching, as each frame is seen as a small work of art and study in colour.

Highlights include model Bloom, above, part of the nature-inspired Flowers Collection. The Flowers develop the theme of the inside-out, one frame inside the other. Two or three acetates with contrasting colours are combined to achieve the curious aesthetic. The colours and soft curves closely follow the inspiration of a blooming spring, filled with flowers. The different acetates combine and overlap with each other like the petals of an exotic flower. Above: model Bloom by RES/REI – a refined ombre or gradient effect in acetate; below, model Flora, also part of the iconic Flowers Collection – both frames represent the most innovative designs in this collection

Model Elite by RES/REI

The men’s style model Elite is part of the Gentlemen collection, conceived to suit the contemporary man. The frame is available in six elegant combination colours – a specialty at RES/REI including the green /grey pictured as well as a lovely blue havana / slate blue. The collection can be viewed in the SILMO Paris fair today. Find out more www.resrei.com

A collection which celebrates diversity and inclusion will be unveiled by the independent eyewear label at Silmo 2024 – the collection is particularly remarkable for a new innovation: the 3D printed resin temples

Madrid’s independent eyewear brand, NINA MÛR, will launch the new collection, “Ecosystem” at the Paris fair this Friday. Inspired by diversity and inclusion, this fresh and colourful collection is born from an idea about the beauty of our differences and the power of the social ecosystem we all build together. Each piece has been created with the goal of reflecting the richness and diversity of society in eyewear which symbolises inclusion, showcasing that differences make human beings stronger, and imperfections make us beautiful. Above: model wears the new Juno sunglasses by NINA MÛR – a curved plywood front with a round eye shape

Juno sunglasses by NINA MÛR

Each model in the “Ecosystem” collection combines traditional craftsmanship with sustainable and innovative production techniques. The finishing of each pair of glasses and sunglasses has been achieved by meticulously hand-carving organic shapes into the plywood and then filling them with eco-friendly resins with a carefully curated colour palette created specifically for this line. This artisanal process gives each pair of glasses spontaneity and uniqueness, enriching the collection as a whole.

Ecosystem glasses and sunglasses feature an original decoration in eco-friendly resin

In addition, NINA MÛR has also developed new innovative 3D-printed resin temples for these models. These temples, featuring an ergonomic and futuristic rounded design, give the glasses a particular, idiosyncratic style. Available in pastel colours, they are durable and light whilst offering a personalized fit for exceptional comfort, seamlessly blending style and functionality.

The collection includes a variety of shapes, colours, and styles, designed to suit all personalities and face shapes. From bold silhouettes to more subtle and elegant options, “Ecosystem” celebrates individuality in all its forms. Each design is named after real people, emphasizing the concept of a social ecosystem where every individual is an essential and unique piece of the whole.

With “Ecosystem,” the brand is launching a global campaign to raise awareness about the importance of embracing and celebrating our differences. Through collaborations with influencers and ambassadors from diverse communities, NINA MÛR will amplify this message of unity and diversity. The “Ecosystem” collection will be available from 15th October 2024, in national and international boutique optical stores that collaborate with the brand. Find out more at www.ninamur.com

The Scottish designer was inspired by the spirit of the 1960s for new directions in a collection which pursues musical inspiration to create a cool eyewear vibe

Charm, individuality and an inimitable sense of British fashion edge, the eyewear collection by Danielle Rattray infuses very wearable design with a special attention to craftsmanship and fine finishing in details such as angles and bevels. Danielle told Eyestylist this week: “My 2024/25 design direction builds on the confident lines and colour signatures I love from my early collections, but now with some evolution towards curves and subtlety in the silhouettes. While the 23/24 collection came from a place more inspired by British rock ’n roll, the 24/25 spirit brings inspiration from musical eras I love from a little earlier. The 1960’s. Artists like Marianne Faithful and Nico. Strong, talented women who made their marks in a beautiful, stylish way. Hedy, Bibi, Riv all carry a new DNA and I am really excited about the new styles for 2025 too!”

Among the new elements highlighted is the introduction of the colour, Smoke / Jura in France. This is a tribute to the eyewear culture of the Rhone Alpes and Haut Jura, combining a warm yellow lens representing the iconic tones of the Haut Jura with a soft smoke 8mm acetate, representing the granite streets of my hometown Aberdeen, a dedication from Scotland to France. Above: model Jean by Danielle Rattray – photography by Paulina Pellowska

Danielle Rattray – model Jean has been handcrafted with bevels and angles – visible across the design

The fine angular shape Jean – in the sunglasses collection – has evolved from a mix of inspirations from eyewear of past eras  with modern international culture. The new Smoke / Jura is a feature of this model, which also comes in Ink blue / Navy and Polished Black / Copper.

Danielle Rattray: the Hedy model comes in Smoke / Jura

Model Hedy represents what is currently a trending oval shape generally in eyewear this season: Rattray’s interpretation is fresh and refined with a flattering shape and a little touch of genuine design quality that you can feel as soon as the frame is in your hands. The colours, including the pure black version, are chic and individual, and bring out the qualities of the fine acetate materials. The new CL0025 sunglasses by VAVA are a tribute to Byetone, artist and co-founder of raster-media

Nominated for a Silmo d’Or in the prestigious category ‘Sunglasses “Eyewear designer”‘, the CL0025 is an exclusive new “future icon” for the brand, as their latest concept inspired by a deep correlation with music and a specific electronic musical genre – experimental electronic music. The design, which has been developed with a fastidious precision both in the references to the music style and in the architecture of the structure, and which is particularly eye-catching thanks to the shape of the bridge, recalls the streamlined features of a vinyl turntable, while the round shape of the lenses is a reference to vinyls by Byetone.

The metal bridge recalls VAVA’s post-industrial DNA as well as being influenced by raster (raster-media.net), the platform and label for experimental electronic music. Above: VAVA x raster – the unisex sunglass style CL0025 is a work of exceptional precision in design and concept, created as a tribute to Byetone

VAVA CL0025: an interaction between two elementary shapes – square and circle – characterises the design of the front – VAVA frames are produced in quality Mazzucchelli eco-friendly acetate and metal parts in 100% ecological aluminium (recyclable)

VAVA’s collaboration with raster-media together with the German artist, Olaf Bender aka Byetone, will be shown for the first time at Silmo in Paris. Find out more at www.vavaeyewear.com

About raster-media: More than a music label, a house of thought and a creative family, raster has made its place in the history of music due to its sonic finesse, depth of its manifestations and careful graphic design, along with their conceptual and procedural style. Founded in 1996, raster has released groundbreaking electronic music – creating and maintaining spaces for future-oriented experiments. In addition to music which has influenced subsequent generations through
production techniques, raster also published books (awarded), data carriers (awarded) and graphics, among others. Another aspect includes activities such as installation works, often realized in collaboration with well-known institutions. https://raster-media.net

The international optical event in Paris, opening on Friday 20th September, will see countless new collection launches and a spectacular array of new ideas and innovations in design…Eyestylist is delighted to preview some of the releases here below and in the coming days leading up to the show…..

From new, alluring colours and combinations to eye-catching surface design and material innovation, this year’s releases at the Paris fair promise ingenuity, originality and some extraordinary artistic touches – all elements that will continue to elevate eyewear as a unique accessory in the worlds of fashion and design, cultivating an exceptional feeling of desirability and individuality in a form of self-expression.  Above: Developments in surface decoration and surface tactility in eyewear design will be an interesting topic for Silmo 2024: exclusively for the Paris event, the Colour Edition ‘L’Intemporel’ in the 70700 model by LOOK from Italy, inspired by the modern ‘lived-in’ trend, will be presented for the first time. An innovative processing technique has made it possible to work with their signature Alumix material to create a fascinating “distressed” effect; according to Look, the material can be recycled without any compromise to its particular material characteristics – www.lookocchiali.it

Rose 3222 by Lafont Paris
RESPECT 3223 by Lafont Paris: berry tones in gradient to a subtle light blue

Colour stories are always a highlight on the Lafont stand at the Silmo Paris event: in previews of the new frame designs, playful graduated colour, expressive patterns – typical of the French brand – and chic bold tones of bright blue and deep purple suggested a revival of a beautiful richness of tones… the frames also point to a spectacular design variety executed with handcrafted finesse – to be revealed through their many new design concepts in Paris – from Friday. www.lafont.com

Architectural details: Sacha by henau eyewear

Henau Eyewear has established a niche collection of one-off silhouettes they describe as “eyewear couture”: pieces which blend functionality and avant-garde design. The new styles such as model Sacha explore traditional eyewear shapes such as the round  shape, interpreting it with a signature look that incorporates architectural design detailing, subtle use of colour combination or a fusion of saturated colour and translucency. A fantastic twist of art-inspired brightness is evident in some of the colour proposals and the two-tone variations.  www.henau-eyewear.com

Ceselli 150 at LAMARCA Eyewear

At LAMARCA Eyewear (Italy), model CESELLI 150 represents a new departure for the decorative flourishes in this beautiful creative acetate range. The frame features diagonal millings with chiselled and sandblasted elements that are completely unique in eyewear. At Silmo, LAMARCA will also present the new FUSIONI 146 – an iconic design which explores strong colour contrasts. www.lamarcaeyewear.com

LEINZ Eyewear from Berlin will show at SILMO – the label is shortlisted in the Silmo D’Or category – Technological Innovation in Eyewear Category

Since the advent of 3D printing, it has been a major challenge to achieve transparency for more lightness and beauty in the eyewear printing industry. A new 3D technology works with an acrylic-based liquid resin which results in a smooth, translucent surface when printed. Berlin eyewear designer LEINZ combines the established SLS 3D-printing process and the new technology in one frame, enabling them to create a new, futuristic aesthetic in eyewear design. Find out about the brand at https://leinzeyewear.de

Helen by Götti Switzerland – the acetate frame has an attractive graduated effect incorporating several tones of colour

Götti Switzerland has announced a selection of new releases for adults and children for Silmo 2024. Among the highlights will be frames in a range of luxurious materials including acetate, titanium and buffalo horn. As well as inspiration from the 1980s, the company has revealed some particular design details in the new range, including sophisticated ombré colour nuances, fine-edged frames with filigree details and classics that offer a timeless beauty for those who seek out beautifully made products that will stand the test of time. www.gotti.ch

The Japanese eyewear label has a brand new release representative of its “next chapter” – in classics for tomorrow

TVR®OPT Japan’s new Chapter collection is a special edition of combination styles designed for Autumn/Winter 2024. Building on the success of the Sterling Silver Rimless Collection (TVR®536) by Tsubota Masato, TVR®OPT continues to push the boundaries of eyewear innovation from its unique position at the centre of the spectacle-making region of Japan.

The Chapter collection has come to fruition as a dedication to Mastercraftsman Sawada Yaemon’s desire to create his own series, over a decade since he launched his first and final collection, Takumi Sawada, in 2014. Named Takumi Sawada (壱), (弐), (参), and (四), this  series was his debut line, produced under his name. “Takumi” means craftsman or artisan, so Takumi Sawada signifies “made by Craftsman Sawada.” Despite receiving positive feedback from stores across Japan, it was also his sole collection, as he faced challenges due to heavy workloads and declining health, leading to its discontinuation.

Today, TVR®OPT dedicates this new line to him, realising his ideas in the Chapter collection, which focuses on lightweight comfort, echoing the principles of the original series. Sawada Yaemon wanted to maintain the concept of one, two, three, and four from his previous collection. Following discussions and recognising that his previous collection was already over a decade old, he named the models in the revival line CHAPTER 1, CHAPTER 2, and CHAPTER 3, symbolising a new chapter in his life and his creative journey. Above: CHAPTER 1 by TVR®OPT  – inspired by a bestseller, the new design has elegant lines and a unique angular appearance

TVR®OPT’s Chapter 2: Lavender and Mint add a touch of novelty in a collection which is otherwise classical in all its key principles

“We come from a family of master craftsmen whose heritage dated back to the Edo period. Our family, the Yaemon, in fact is the first to perfect the iconic TVR®505 shape using traditional measurements and techniques, making this collection extra special to us.” — Sawada Yaemon

TVR®OPT: The Chapter collection – antique tortoise is highlighted in the collection for its versatility and vintage appeal

Inspired by the rich heritage of craftsmanship, the Chapter collection embodies timeless elegance, drawing from Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Art Deco elements. This collection marks a new era for TVR®OPT, symbolising the beginning of fresh chapters in both the company’s and the wearer’s journeys. In a nod to tradition and craftsmanship, TVR®OPT Japan reintroduces combination eyeglasses after a hiatus since the retirement of Yamada Mitsukazu in 2019. Collaborating with Sawada Yaemon and Tsubota Masato, TVR®OPT brings a fresh perspective to an inherently classic style that has come to be recognised across the globe. The Square collection by J.F. Rey, which will preview this month at Silmo Paris, is designed to  embody iconic characteristics of the J.F. Rey design style. The frames draw inspiration from the geometric constructions and coloured filters of the award-winning conceptual artist, Daniel Buren. Above: girl wears model Ruby by J.F. Scarlet by J.F. Rey

The geometric construction of the temples of the “Square” models is particular to the line: they combine elementary forms in metal and acetate, with contrasts between opaque and translucent finishes, monochromatic tones and some refined patterned acetate sections.

Ruby by J. F. Rey: the influences of Daniel Buren’s work are immediately apparent in the colour combination above – which closely reflects the colours and light effects of several of his installations in plexiglas

The sculptural feel of the designs is highlighted by means of glamorous thicknesses and graphic lines. Structural details are also visible on the fronts, offering a unique look. Iridescent colours, like those of model Scarlet (4430), accentuate the effect further for those who like their eyewear bold and full of colour contrasts and expression. For more information visit www.jfrey.fr

Technological innovations and interactive experiences will show different future paths for the sector. Those looking for eyewear innovation and design inspiration will find packed Halls – 6 and 7 – where iconic and established brands exhibit alongside some of the latest and youngest labels making a name for themselves in the business.

The highly regarded Silmo D’Or awards will be announced during a prestigious ceremony to be held in an exceptional Paris venue marking the 30th anniversary of the Silmo d’Or awards presentation. All the nominated and winning products will be exhibited in Hall 7, in what is expected to be an exceptional display for the innovations and talent found in the sector this year. Above: Andy Wolf’s new collection promises plenty of variety in all areas. In addition to new shapes in the “Shape in Shape in Shape” collection, exciting new colour gradients and playful work on unusual shapes and facets, a new line will also be introduced that gives way to a new luxury within the collection. Among the optical releases is model 5148 pictured, an oversized frame made of thick acetate that points to new season directions with its distinctive cat’s eye shape and pronounced facets – with two exclusive colour gradients – www.andy-wolf.com

MOVITRA have announced this month that they will show 11 new models at Silmo including the new Apex Titanium collection

Highlights will include soft and striking colours such as lilac and blue, with Blackfin’s innovative signature bi-colour graduated effects featuring for some models like Quincy (pictured above) – an eye-catching, contemporary design with a trendy new round-oval shape. www.blackfin.eu

A new must-have at Diffuser Tokyo: a luxurious display tray

Accessories are an extra special treat at the Silmo show. Highly recommended for its fast growing high-quality collection is the Japanese label Diffuser Tokyo, where much innovation and material research provides the basis for beautifully finished eyewear storage pieces, chains, cords and cases – for men and women. Made in Japan, their new original iron core leather laminated display tray is one of the latest designs to feature, offered in black and white, black and orange, black and blue or black and green. See the full range ahead of Silmo at www.diffuser-tokyo.com

Silmo 2024 takes place from 20th to 23rd September 2024 at Paris Nord Villepinte. This year, the fair will offer many new events and workshops for optical professionals with particular emphasis on technological change in the FUTUROLOGY Space and new innovation via the Trends by SILMO Forum Exhibition, which will offer a look at the image, shape, colour and materials of different frames, in a comprehensive overview that sheds light on the best eyeglasses and sunglasses by the exhibitors at the trade fair. The four key trends which will be explored are: “Free Colorama” – on bold colour stories and colour combinations; “Virtuous Simplicity” – on the minimal direction in eyewear design, “Classic Variations” – on timeless classics and ‘Full Sun’ – on sunglasses as an expressive fashion accessory in all categories.

In an interview with eyewear expert Kayla Heersink, Gary Black of Black Optical – creators of Kuro Athletics – reveals why they have launched a sports eyewear collection designed for Olympic level performance. The collection marks a new departure for Black Optical, the renowned US independent optical retailer.

What inspired you to create an athletic eyewear line? The inspiration came from three main sources. Firstly, we identified a significant market opportunity for rx-able sports eyewear, which was less crowded compared to premium everyday eyewear. Secondly, we aimed to elevate product standards within this space. Lastly, as a runner and cyclist myself, there was a personal motivation. We wanted something that aligned with our brand values– clean design, premium materials, and logo-free aesthetics that were missing in the performance eyewear space. Above: Kuro specialises in single lens products offering fully integrated prescription capabilities – designed with the technical attributes required by Olympic athletes – the brand is a new project by the team behind Black Optical

Kuro Athletics: Kuro Rx single lens architecture is “peak of innovation”, utilising digital free-form Rx technology
What sets Kuro apart from other sportswear glasses on the market? Kuro stands out due to first of its kind features. We employ a single lens architecture and incorporate co-inject nylon rubber temples with adjustable stainless-steel inserts for a customizable fit. Additionally, beta titanium tension nose pads offer further adjustability. We approach the collection with an optician’s perspective, ensuring each detail is meticulously designed. The absence of logos and our commitment to Japanese craftsmanship further set Kuro apart.
Kuro Athletics: designed for sports performance – made in Japan
Which USA Olympic athlete would you like to see wearing Kuro in Paris?Hometown favorite, Sha’Carri Richardson, would be a dream. Devin Booker has the best eyewear style in the NBA, so we would know Kuro ‘made it’ if he was spotted wearing a pair. Anna Hall and her multi-sport discipline aligns perfectly with Kuro’s design principles. Nia Atkins, as she is an inspiration to all young athletes. We had athletes like Nyjah Huston in mind when designing the Kestrel. And, we have to include the fastest man on the planet, Noah Lyles.
Where are Kuro products manufactured? All Kuro frames are engineered in Japan and the lenses are crafted in Taiwan. These lenses are available in 6-base, 7-base and 9-base spherical configurations, all meeting and exceeding Ansi and EN specifications for safety and performance.

The Wo’Olympics collection by Woow Eyewear marks the Olympics in Paris – for summer 2024

A new edition at French label, Woow Eyewear pays homage to the prowess, nobility and creativity of the Olympics hosted by the city of Paris this summer. In typical Woow fashion, each of the sun and optical styles in this range reflects a mood through its style, colourways and its name, and features signature wording in tiny circular inserts on the end tips. Above: one of the highlights of the Olympic themed collection is the sunglass style Super Olymp’, Olympic sunglasses with a fashion edge. The sunglasses have diamond-like facets representing “the true flagship of the Olympics: like a firework display or an Olympic medal-style sculpture”

Woow Eyewear “Olympic sunglasses”: model Super Swimm

The Super Swimm sunglasses also standout in this special July “Olympic” release: the frame has a retro design in a combination of stepped wave-like milling with the aesthetic of synchronized swimmers’ nose clips – in a striking colour combo of bright red and light blue. The new collection also offers several optical frames including a round design inspired by hurdles and a refined multi-sided frame called “Go Further” – a design which encourages “going beyond one’s limits”. Find out more about these models and more by visiting the Woow Eyewear website at www.wooweyewear.com

Chris Galha, the creative designer behind Mes Bozyeux works with mixed media – new, recycled and vintage materials – to create original colourful, flamboyant design pieces for homes and interiors, inspired by the human eye and heart…

Eye-catching, bold and full of colour and flamboyant detail, each design piece by Mes Bozyeux is unique. Working from a natural cement base, the pieces come to life as the artist adds layers of colourful, luminous texture…with pieces of polished blown glass, crystals, chandelier pendants, porcelain, leather, fine stones, showers of seed beads, handmade ornamental jewellery, and even natural feathers. Above: in France, Mes Bozyeux are gaining recognition with optical retailers as decorative pieces for their stores…they have also featured in the consumer press and Gala magazine  – the creations are available in different designs and colours – according to particular inspiration and colour themes

Handmade from new, recycled and vintage materials: the designer imagines how each piece will be eye-catching, surprising – and a beautiful way to brighten every day

According to the designer, her passion for representing the eye or the mouth in art has been a long-term fixation: “I have always drawn them. Since childhood, I have always nurtured a vivid imagination and a thirst for learning and discovery, naturally gravitating towards the beauty that surrounds me.

Architecture, art, beautiful books, decor, design, haute couture, flamenco, haute pâtisserie, gastronomy, jewellery, photography, music, nature, vintage, and a love for Italy are all tremendous sources of beauty, emotion, and endless inspiration for me, enriching my curiosity, sensitivity and zest for life!”

Embracing the power and uplifting allure of colour

Inspired by the philosophy of minimalism and contemporary artistic movements, Tree Spectacles combines an alluring set of colours in its new Colour Clash Capsule, an eye-catching, small-batch special edition designed for summer 2024 release. The frames have been conceived for eyewear enthusiasts and connoisseurs who seek an exciting, colourful frame with a powerful visual impact – produced with finesse according to the traditions of “made-in-Italy”. Above: close-up showing the dazzling effect of three bright tones combined, fuchsia and lilac with aqua blue

Midas by Tree Spectacles: in dark red, light grey with a pale tone of rust

“Colour, with its ability to evoke emotions and communicate without words, lies at the heart of our Colour Clash Capsule Series”, explains Marco Barp, Co-Founder, Tree Spectacles. “Each shade is carefully selected, not only for its visual beauty but also for its ability to create harmony and contrast within the overall design. Like brushstrokes on a canvas, the colours blend delicately to create a wearable work of art…”

Two classic shapes – the rectangular Midas and Vedra styles – which are existing bestsellers in the Italian brand’s collection, are featured in this line. Their clean lines and luxury finishing – thanks to the use of high-quality Italian acetate by Mazzucchelli and Japanese stainless steel, harmonize with the interplay of unpredictable and “clashing” colours, creating frames that can be perceived as a form of self-expression, enhancing and flattering the wearer’s gaze.

Tree Spectacles is known for its curated eyewear collection with models designed for men and for women. The brand has developed a distinctive, minimalist design style with frames crafted from beginning to end in Italy according to traditional and new and innovative techniques for the different elements and details of each frame. Eyestylist Exclusive – The G1 Digital Glasses are described as the first pair of everyday-wear smart glasses that “uncomplicate life”

Launched end of June 2024, the new G1 Digital Glasses by Even Realities – the first product by the new company – represents a new direction in wearable technology, integrating advanced digital features (viewed on a virtual display) into everyday eyewear, designed with a desire to create a much more sleek and style-oriented product than has been seen before in the category. Evolving beyond the current state of play and a smart glasses category that has tended to offer bulky and over-featured designs with AI companions that lack practical functionality for everyday use, the Even Realities team say that the G1 Digital Glasses can be seen as a new product nexus, prioritising wearability and usability.

“The G1 helps redefine the way people interact with technology,” said Will Wang, Founder of Even Realities. “Our vision is to enable users to see what matters in the merge of digital and physical realities, all while staying connected to the world around them.” Above: the new G1 Smart Glasses by Even Realities, launched just days ago

G1 Digital Glasses – a lightweight, state-of-the-art panto design with a suite of digital features viewed on a green monochrome display (above)

The G1 frame is lightweight, produced in premium materials such as magnesium alloys and a sandstone coating. Its adaptive temple support is made with hypoallergenic titanium alloys and silicone parts, offering a velvety feel. Available with either prescription or non-prescription lenses, the G1 can also be transformed into sunglasses with a clip-on, making them versatile for indoor and outdoor use.

The G1 Digital Glasses are powered by Even Realities’ own UI, Even OS. Its key features include the Translate for real-time spoken language translation, the Navigate for integrated turn-by-turn directions, and the Teleprompt for an AI-powered virtual teleprompter, aiding in speech and presentations. The QuickNotes and Reminder features can enhance productivity by allowing users to capture notes hands-free, and view instant messages and upcoming events without needing other smart devices. The G1 also works with LLMs like ChatGPT, further extending its functionality. A noteworthy feature is the rechargeable battery which provides, according to Even Realities, 2-3 days of battery life on a single charge.

The high-tech smart product has been designed by a team with a broad spectrum of expertise in optical display technology, optometry, design and manufacturing. They include Will Wang, CEO and Founder, who has a background in consumer electronics, Nikolaj Schnoor, Principal Strategy Officer and Philipp Haffmans, Principal Eyewear Designer. In sunwear, the choice of glamorous shapes and colours is particularly enticing this season, as a desire for self-expression  – alongside safe, high-quality UV protection, continues to drive creativity and an individuality of style

While some say the season’s apparel was about playing it safe, sunglasses this season are served up less discreetly, as the ideal opportunity to add effect, drama, humour, or an individualised expression of style. Enter a whole host of oversized and sculptural shapes – including square, geometric, oval and cat eye, with some tremendous detailing – sometimes subtle and sometimes over-the-top – and a fascinating colour story which is extremely broad, and bursting with exciting colours to enliven any outfit. Above: model Rose Sun by Jisco – the Spanish eyewear brand – is an elegant, oversized square-shaped sunglass style, offered in four colourways – with sun lenses in eye-catching contemporary hues, www.jiscoeyewear.com

Lapima – Lisa in “daisy yellow” – a light, zesty citrus tone

Brazilian label Lapima brings audacious notes of brightness to their collection in models like Lisa, a distinctive rectangular acetate design with thick rims that have a handcrafted “sculpted” finish. The new yellow tone that has been introduced for several models in a limited edition is said to offer an expression of “celebration and vitality, a toast to the summer of ’24!” www.lapima.com

Zaiku 1 by FACE A FACE – a playful concept from the Parisian eyewear brand

The Zaiku 1 by FACE A FACE – in the Japan Now! collection – is inspired by the Yosegi-zaiku “parquet work” – a type of traditional marquetry which resembles a mosaic – and is most well-known for its use in creating Japanese puzzle boxes. The frame combines this influence with a gorgeous combination of several bright and intense tones and transparent coloured acetates. www.faceaface-paris.com

Marni by RSF – Magneticus in the colour “lazuli”

The unisex Magneticus frame at Marni is a bright spark in their new collection for summer: the butterfly shape has a rounded lens design and a 1950s inspired twist in its detailing. Thick temples feature distinctive forked tips while the overall structure is full of character with its sculpted look and natural custom finish. www.marni.com

Odd Fruits by Gigi Studios – the Citrus sunglasses

Tones of bright pink, yellow, red and orange are all part of the mix in the Spring/Summer sunglass collections. The Odd Fruits collection by Gigi Studios has based its colour palette on some of them, inspired by unusual exotic fruits and their beautiful tropical or citrus variations. www.gigistudios.com

theo’s Suprematisme is a striking multicoloured sunglass (unisex) with an artistic theme

In theo’s new Artisme collection, the sun models such as Suprematisme are like miniature artworks, with complex structures, unusual shapes and saturated colour schemes with striking patterned sections, all combined together for the most creative and eye-catching “denouement” to accessorise the eyes!
