First look: J. F. Rey for Silmo Paris

The French brand announces a new signature concept called “Square” – showing in the Paris fair this month

The Square collection by J.F. Rey, which will preview this month at Silmo Paris, is designed to  embody iconic characteristics of the J.F. Rey design style. Scarlet by J.F. Rey

The geometric construction of the temples of the “Square” models is particular to the line: they combine elementary forms in metal and acetate, with contrasts between opaque and translucent finishes, monochromatic tones and some refined patterned acetate sections.

The sculptural feel of the designs is highlighted by means of glamorous thicknesses and graphic lines. Structural details are also visible on the fronts, offering a unique look. An inspiring eyewear event for September with collections by international players

Hall of Frames (HOF) have confirmed their annual event taking place on 15th September (9am to 5pm) at the Museum of Transport in Lucerne (Switzerland) for optical professionals. 57 collections will be showcased on the day, with exhibiting  companies from across Europe and further afield.

Silmo Paris 2024: new directions

The international optical fair will showcase a broad overview of the latest eyewear collections by luxury, fashion, lifestyle and sports brands as well as seeing an impressive attendance of the independent creative designers in the business – the Paris event promises many different dedicated spaces across the show floor offering visitors the chance to discover the future of optics and eyewear with special attention on the emergence of AI and new technologies such as 3D printing

Silmo 2024, which takes place from 20th to 23rd September at Paris Nord Villepinte, remains the premiere international optics and eyewear event of the season for optical professionals from across the world. The event will feature over 900 exhibitors and 1,500 brands from around the world, highlighting innovation, trends, technology developments and sustainable topics that are shaping the future of the optical industry.

Rolf is adding new models across its collections for adults and children – at Silmo 2024

Rolf will unveil thirteen brand-new styles from five distinctive collections. The Italian eyewear company Blackfin plans to show a cornucopia of titanium designs – including bold styles in the Atlantic series and more streamlined ones in the Pacific range. Colour illuminates the design of the new frames, interpreting a style concept in which Italian artisan craftsmanship and superior quality converge, the company explains. A new must-have at Diffuser Tokyo: a luxurious display tray

Accessories are an extra special treat at the Silmo show. Kuro Athletics: “where action creates clarity”

In an interview with eyewear expert Kayla Heersink, Gary Black of Black Optical – creators of Kuro Athletics – reveals why they have launched a sports eyewear collection designed for Olympic level performance. The collection marks a new departure for Black Optical, the renowned US independent optical retailer.

What inspired you to create an athletic eyewear line? The inspiration came from three main sources. Firstly, we identified a significant market opportunity for rx-able sports eyewear, which was less crowded compared to premium everyday eyewear. Secondly, we aimed to elevate product standards within this space. Lastly, as a runner and cyclist myself, there was a personal motivation. We wanted something that aligned with our brand values– clean design, premium materials, and logo-free aesthetics that were missing in the performance eyewear space. We had athletes like Nyjah Huston in mind when designing the Kestrel. And, we have to include the fastest man on the planet, Noah Lyles.
Where are Kuro products manufactured? All Kuro frames are engineered in Japan and the lenses are crafted in Taiwan. These lenses are available in 6-base, 7-base and 9-base spherical configurations, all meeting and exceeding Ansi and EN specifications for safety and performance.

Paris Olympics release by Woow Eyewear
